Monday afternoon

One Good Thing: Sparky has new clothes and looks less orphaned (I hope).
One Funny Thing: My surprise at how cold I have been all day.
One Weird Thing: I reek of cigarette smoke because of where I ate lunch today.

One God Thing: "Are you cheerful because you belong to Christ? Does his love comfort you? Is the Holy Spirit your companion? Has Christ been gentle and loving toward you? Then make my joy complete by agreeing with each other. Have the same love. Be one in spirit and purpose." Philippians 2:1-2
One Music Thing: I'm going to trade the duplicate Favre book for the Nelson Mandela 46664 concert CD.
One Book Thing: I've finished more books in the past week or so than I did in a few months this year. Pretty sad.

Sunday afternoon

One Good Thing: I'm home.
One Funny Thing: Brett Favre's high fives with the ref in today's game. His enthusiasm is adorable.
One Weird Thing: I seem to have acquired 10 packages of cereal within the last couple of weeks. I thought I didn't have any here, so I got some (on sale) while I was away. Came back to discover that I'd apparently just stocked up. It's not a big deal - I'll certainly eat it before it shows any age.

One God Thing: “Therefore you now have sorrow; but I will see you again and your heart will rejoice and your joy no one will take from you.” [John 16:22]
One Music Thing: When I have the free cash, I'll be buying Maroon 5's B Sides from iTunes.
One Book Thing: Actually, two book things: for Christmas, I received The Whole World Over - the nominal 'sequel' to Three Junes - by Julia Glass and Dewdrops on a Lotus Leaf: Zen Poems of Ryƍkan (trans. by John Stevens).

12.25.2007

Tuesday mid-afternoon

One Good Thing: It's Christmas! That's a very good thing.
One Funny Thing: The only book I got for Christmas is one we already own.
One Weird Thing: I actually cried a little when Sparky and Beast left at noon. It's weird because I have been looking forward to being alone this week, and I'm more than a little freaked out--and sad--at the prospect.

One God Thing: "And the Word became flesh and lived among us, and we have seen his glory, the glory as of a father’s only son, full of grace and truth." - John 1:14
One Music Thing: I'm very tired of Christmas carols. Does that make me a Grinch?
One Book Thing: I got nothin' but the aforementioned lack of books for Christmas. Poor me, eh? :-)

Tuesday Morning

One Good Thing: The fog and snow have gone away. Well, there's snow on the ground (about a foot?) but the sky is clear and the sun is shining.
One Funny Thing: We have the outdoor [Christmas] lights turned on today - the first day in 5 that it's been too sunny to see them. Every other day that I've turned them on before dark, someone has turned them back off.
One Weird Thing: I guess there's a gift for me under the Christmas tree, which is 3' away from me. And I'm not clamoring to open it. Is this what it means to be an adult?

One God Thing: See to it that no one misses the grace of God...
[Heb 12:15 (NIV)]
One Music Thing: Sister Hazel's new CD, Santa's Playlist
One Book Thing: I finished Flirting in Cars on Sunday. Today I'll tackle A Bit on the Side.

Saturday Evening

One Good Thing: I cataloged a LOT of stuff today.
One Funny Thing: Three subjects in a row, by accident: a manual on "maintenance sex," The Bible (by Karen Amstrong), and a self-help get-over-yourself book.
One Weird Thing: Fog. All day today. And it continues. Very odd.

One God Thing: "For God alone my soul waits in silence;
from him comes my salvation.
He alone is my rock and my salvation, my fortress;
I shall never be shaken. --Psalm 62:1-2
One Music Thing: I heard "Wham Rap" today for the first time in years...and sadly, I still know most of the lyrics.
One Book Thing: My reading blog is caught up again. Finally. Yay.

12.20.2007

Thursday morning

One Good Thing: I have about 7.5 hours left of work this year.
One Funny Thing: Find your Brazilname here.
One Weird Thing: This is the second coldest day of the winter. I wore a skirt today, and on the coldest day of the season so far. I do actually look at the weather report occasionally. Apparently it doesn't sink in?

One God Thing: "For by grace are ye saved through faith; and that not of yourselves: it is the gift of God: {9} Not of works, lest any man should boast."
[Ephesians 2:8-9]
One Music Thing: Audioslave, Out of Exile - especially "Doesn't Remind Me"
One Book Thing: 10 days of almost uninterrupted reading! What shall I pack? Two books of Rumi poems, the new Alisa Kwitney (Flirting in Cars), the William Trevor that I've been wanting to read for ages (A Bit on the Side), and my new Paul Preston Spanish Civil War. With any luck, I'll run out and need to buy something while I'm away.

12.17.2007

Monday evening

One Good Thing: I ran into a friend after work, someone with whom I haven't had a chance to really talk in a long time. (I was late leaving because I was talking with a different friend, a coworker, until a half hour after I usually go home.) We talked in my car for a couple of hours. I needed it.
One Funny Thing: "ANHALOHEAVE"
One Weird Thing: I received a Christmas card at work from good friends from home. They must not have my home address....

One God Thing: "But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, longsuffering, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness, self-control. Against such there is no law." [Gal 5:22-23]
One Music Thing: "Somebody Must be Prayin' for Me" by Tim McGraw, from A Place in the Sun. I'm not such a huge fan of his, but this song has something sweet and delicate about it that really appeals.
One Book Thing: Arriving at Your Own Door: 108 Lessons in Mindfulness by Jon Kabat-Zinn.

12.14.2007

Friday Night

One Good Thing: I wore a skirt to work today - the coldest day of the season so far. When I got outside, I discovered that the layer of frost on my car was thick enough to require a lot of scraping. I was in for a tough morning. I started the car, got out, and started working. Not more than a minute later, I heard a honk and looked up; my boss was driving by on her way to work. She gestured toward her passenger seat, as if to say, "Want a ride?" She saved me from 15 or 20 minutes of standing in the cold and wind.
One Funny Thing: A joke from a kid book:

Two fish are together in their tank.
The first one says to the other, "Hey, Frank,
why don't you drive for a while?
I'll man the guns."

One Weird Thing: This is the first joke I've been able to remember for a very long time.

One God Thing: “We expect God’s presence to be thunderous, spectacular, monumental; but it is our need that is so large. The real presence slips past our demands for spectacle. It slips past our despair.”
[Tim Farrington, in
The Monk Downstairs]
One Music Thing: "
Firefly" by Sister Hazel (from the CD Lift.) It's funky, happy, and hopeful.
One Book Thing: I think it's time that I reread About the Author by John Colapinto. If I'm going to keep hand-selling it, I should have a better grasp of the minute details.

Friday

One Good Thing: Not having to work today.
One Funny Thing: Photo at right: [via]
One Weird Thing: My inability to reach REM last night for more than (what felt like) ten minutes.

One God Thing: "Woe to you, scribes and Pharisees, hypocrites! For you are like whitewashed tombs, which on the outside look beautiful, but inside they are full of the bones of the dead and of all kinds of filth." --Matthew 23:27 [today's gospel lectionary]
One Music Thing: Beeping garbage trucks
One Book Thing: I currently have two overdue books. I have started reading neither of them, and I can't renew them (too new).

12.13.2007

what is this "happy" stuff?

*
One Good Thing: I'm a new part of a happy blog!
One Funny Thing: One of my coworkers dumped 20 dozen cookies in the parking lot yesterday, on his way in for the day. (He was delivering them for an evening program.) It's funny now.
One Weird Thing: I think I'm going to start writing Christmas cards tonight. It actually sounds like fun.

One God Thing: 1 Cor 15:10 (NAS) - But by the grace of God I am what I am, and His grace toward me did not prove vain; but I labored even more than all of them, yet not I, but the grace of God with me.
One Music Thing: I can't get enough Chevelle, the boys from Libertyville, even though it's breaking my heart.
One Book Thing: Anything by or about Rumi, at the moment, is fascinating me.

* Thanks, Cat.

Thursday

*
One Good Thing: The sun is supposed to come out today.
One Funny Thing: My dream about my brother and his wife expecting a baby.
One Weird Thing: I'm still not stressed about the holiday! That's pretty unusual.

One God Thing: "Beloved, do not grumble against one another, so that you may not be judged. See, the Judge is standing at the doors!" (James 5:9) [ouch--today's Upper Room Reflections verse]
One Music Thing: Mika makes me smile. I think Freddy Mercury has returned.
One Book Thing: I finally, finally!, finished The Years of Rice and Salt. Now I need to figure out what it was all about!
